Established in 2011, Gunn Park Trails was developed by a local group of volunteers with a passion to create trails for all skill levels, and to provide a venue for events that would attract visitors to our community.
Bordered by the Marmaton River, Gunn Park was gifted to the City of Fort Scott in 1910 by W.F. Gunn. The 150 acres of timber, with two small lakes, now includes seven shelter houses, several playgrounds, a campground, an 18-hole disc golf course, and nearly 7 miles of sweet Southeast Kansas singletrack.
We genuinely appreciate the support from the City of Fort Scott, and the surrounding community.
Our annual mountain bike festival, The Marmaton Massacre, continues to grow each year. In 2015, we were honored to host the Kansas State MTB Championship.
We also host a unique event we call our Tri-Yak-A-Thon. This event involves running 4 miles of trail, kayaking approximately 2.5 miles on the Marmaton River, and finishing with approximately 7 miles of trail ride. Participants compete either solo or as a relay team, and travel from surrounding states to do so.
Other events include The Frozen Five and Dime and the Frontier Fanatic, both trail runs hosted by others in the community.
